69 Gurkha Fd Sqn (Search)
This has been a really busy year for 69 Sqn - we’ve recovered from our deployment in summer 2010 to Afghanistan to going straight into preparations for deploying to Kenya on a construction exercise earlier this year. The exercise was a great success with the Sqn greatly improving the BATUK training infrastructure. It was also a chance for the boys to see a bit more of Kenya and to do some adventurous training. On our return from Kenya we’ve rebalanced some of our manpower with 70 Sqn and are now fully focussed on training our search teams for a further deployment to Afghanistan in 2012.
70 Gurkha Fd Sqn (Search)
The past few months have seen 70 Sqn involved in a variety of activities as well as transforming from being a Field Support Squadron to a Field Squadron (Search). Although we haven’t been abroad as a squadron, we have managed to send teams and individuals away to the likes of Jordan, Canada, Afghanistan and Kenya. We’ve managed to keep our artisans busy with small scale construction tasks on camp, at Leeds Castle and with rebuilding the Gurkha Village at RMA Sandhurst. Our plant operators have been kept busy with numerous live tasks at the likes of Minley and Wimbish. We’ve also undertaken combat engineering training in Weymouth and undertaken some adventurous training on Dartmoor and in Cornwall. The Squadron now starts to concentrate on training in the Search role with support to contingency operations coming up in 2012.
